Announcing the Launch of The ABCs of Homelessness Series: Teaching Compassion, One Letter at a Time

We’re proud to introduce The ABCs of Homelessness—a heartfelt, educational coloring book series designed to teach children about the realities of homelessness with empathy and understanding, one letter at a time. Created with a clear mission, this series aims to nurture compassion, awareness, and deeper insight in the next generation..

Too often, adults already have their minds made up about individuals experiencing homelessness. The stereotypes run deep, and the judgment comes quickly. But what if we taught the next generation to see the whole story—to recognize people, not problems? What if we taught children early on that every person has value, every need matters, and every small act of kindness counts? What if we raised kids who were not only aware of this social crisis—but committed to being part of the solution?

That’s exactly what this series was designed to do.

Each of these three coloring books introduces real experiences and needs connected to homelessness, offering age-appropriate insights and planting seeds of compassion early on.

Book 1: The ABCs of Homelessness – Things to Know

This book helps children understand what homelessness is and what it might look like for people who experience it. From “A is for Apartment” to “Z is for Zip Bags,” each page introduces a real struggle someone might face—like not having a bed, feeling unsafe, or being overlooked. It’s not about fixing the problem—it’s about seeing others with empathy.

Book 2: The ABCs of Homelessness – What People Need

This book shows the everyday things people without homes often go without—from warm meals and clean socks to ID cards and backpacks. Children will learn what basic needs are and why having these items helps people feel safe, cared for, and human.

Book 3: The ABCs of Homelessness – How We Can Help

The final book in the series encourages children to think about ways they can show compassion. Whether it’s through kind words, donating food, or simply noticing someone in need, this book offers simple, age-appropriate ways children and families can practice kindness and make a difference.

Why This Matters

Children are naturally curious and compassionate. When we take the time to teach them about homelessness in a thoughtful and honest way, we give them the tools to grow into empathetic, informed adults who will shape a better world. Most adults already carry deeply rooted beliefs about homelessness—beliefs shaped by myths, fear, and misinformation. But our children? They’re still listening. Still learning. Still open. This series is our chance to change the narrative for the next generation. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, church group, or community leader, The ABCs of Homelessness is a meaningful tool to start big conversations with little learners.

This series is our chance to change the narrative for the next generation.
